What is an EPF Calculator?

An EPF Calculator (Employees’ Provident Fund Calculator) helps employees in India estimate their retirement corpus by projecting monthly contributions (employee EPF and employer EPF share) and interest credited to their EPF account. This tool excludes the employer’s 8.33% EPS portion (which funds pension and earns no interest) and focuses on the EPF balance that compounds.

How to use the EPF Calculator

  1. Enter your age and retirement age.
  2. Enter monthly Basic + DA and your current EPF balance.
  3. Keep Employee EPF % at 12% (or change if 10% applies); add optional VPF % if you contribute more.
  4. Set expected annual increment % and the EPF interest rate you want to model.
  5. Click Calculate. Toggle the yearly table to see a year-wise breakdown. Export with Download CSV.

Quick example

If Basic+DA = ₹25,000 and Employee EPF = 12%, your monthly employee contribution is ₹3,000. Employer contributes another 12% (= ₹3,000), but ₹1,249.5 (8.33% of the ₹15,000 EPS cap) goes to EPS; the remaining ₹1,750.5 goes to your EPF balance and earns interest.

Glossary

  • EPF: Interest-bearing retirement savings account.
  • EPS: Pension scheme funded by 8.33% of wages up to the EPS cap; does not earn interest in your EPF balance.
  • VPF: Voluntary PF—extra employee contribution beyond the statutory rate.
  • EPF Interest: Announced annually by EPFO; credited yearly (we approximate monthly for projections).

EPF Calculator FAQs

How is EPF calculated each month?
Employee EPF = chosen % (usually 12%) × (Basic + DA). Employer contributes 12% too; from that, 8.33% of wages up to the EPS cap goes to EPS and the remainder goes to EPF.
Does the EPF Calculator include EPS?
No. EPS funds pension and does not accrue interest in your EPF balance. The calculator excludes EPS from corpus.
What interest rate should I use?
Use the latest notified EPF rate as a baseline or your own assumption. Your actual corpus will vary as the rate changes yearly.
Is VPF included?
Yes. Add an extra % in “Voluntary PF (extra %).” VPF is treated like employee EPF for interest and tax (subject to rules).
Can I download a year-wise EPF projection?
Yes. Turn on the yearly table and click “Download CSV.”
Does this EPF Calculator handle annual increments?
Yes. We apply your increment once every 12 months to Basic + DA and recompute contributions thereafter.
